Community Relations

On this page you will find information about water in relation to coalbed methane and our Canadian operations.

In our Horseshoe Canyon development, drilling operations for a typical well uses approximately 200 cubic meters, or approximately 200,000 liters, of water depending on depth.  After its use in drilling, this water is tested to ensure it meets appropriate Alberta Energy Resource Conservation Board (ERCB) criteria and then is land spread.

For comparison purposes, the average Canadian household* uses approximately 34,000 liters of water per month**.

Groundwater Studies
The links below provide results from a study undertaken by Quicksilver Resources Canada’s predecessor, MGV Energy, to determine groundwater depths and levels in communities where we operate in Canada.
